What is the definition of obstructive sleep apnea?

If there are more than 5 apnea/hypopneas per hour in the presence of daytime symptoms or more than 15 per hour in adults, it is considered obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).

If there are sleep problems like snoring below these levels, it is referred to as "simple snoring."

Mild obstructive sleep apnea is between 5-15, moderate disease is between 15-30 per hour, and more than 30 per hour is considered a severe disease.
